“I came to save my home and the people that I love. I came because the trident is their only hope. And if that’s not good enough… then screw you.” - Arthur Curry, Aquaman 2018
This project was done in the aftermath of the 2018 Aquaman movie. The inspiration came from the proposed joint themed photoshoot done with Asia Thomas’ desire to be Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. The wig and facial hair pieces are a combination of synthetic and human hairs placed on lace while being held in place with spirit gum,
The chest armor was a vinyl scale fabric with a molded texture. The base color was silver with a candy coat orange being spray painted on after the fabric was sewn into a shirt pattern. The muscles are heat formed EVA exercise mats for added muscle definition. The muscles were patterned directly on to my skin. On the triceps there are golden armor pieces made from EVA foam with details drawn in puff paint. The zipper on the front features a zipper pull modeled after the Aquaman emblem. The base gloves are pleather Darth Vader gloves that were painted a dark green with a hexagon pattern. The gloves fins are a EVA foam base sandwhiched between Thibra and attached to a base glove with 2mm and 5mm details for the fingers.
Lastly the trident was a combination of outsourced 3D prints and more foam details. The foam on the on the handle has Atlantean symbols/carvings with the being 3/4” PVC pipe. The legging and boot covers were constructed from a hexagon scuba fabric dyed green. I originally used a pattern block I found from a sewing tutorial book and drew sketches to get the panel lines down and added maxi piping with the seam allowance, The boot covers slip over a base shoe and zip up in the back. On the bottom of the boot covers is a sole so that the fabric doesn’t get worn or dirty. Armor details for the leg are sculpted floor mats using a Dremel sanding tool. The rivets are brass binding brads.
This was my first big project after Deadpool and I learned a lot when it came to making a suit more comfortable. This suit had so many problems with the biggest being how hot the shirt got. It was quickly retired months after but I’m thankful for the pictures/skills I got from it.
Dyeing the scuba hex dark green
Preliminary sketch of how the tights should look with cut lines
Ordered a 3D printed kit on Etsy
Trident assembly with 3/4" PVC pipe
Finished Trident
Sewing the vinyl scale fabric into a shirt pattern. Not a good idea
Zipper closure
Carved muscles glued in with contact cement
The finished boot covers. I used slip on sneakers for the inside
Here I used floor mat foam to achieve these shapes by drawing it out by hand and slowly carving away with a sanding drum
The boot covers witch dremel carved shin armor
Belt scales being glued onto vinyl strip and the raw Thibra gauntlets
Finished gauntlet armor
Clear coating the belt armor
Lace front wig and facial hair
