“Spider-Man is a great chapter in our history, and you're not even a footnote.” - Miguel O’Hara Spider-Man 2099 to JJ Jameson
I’m going to do something different with this entry, seeing as this was the longest and most complicated project I have ever done. As some of you may know, the character of Spider-Man is an institution. He and the various versions are one of the most recognizable designs in the superhero community around the world. You would be hard pressed to find someone who does not like this hero. Personally, I have loved Spider-Man since I was a boy, watched almost every associated piece of media, and even played a few video games including him. The games played a special part in this project, as it was Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4 that put me on to the white suit version of Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O’Hara.
Now, for what I’m doing differently for this entry: this costume was a part of a year long development process, documented step by step in a pdf, and the package was turned in for a competition at a convention I attended (DragonCon 2021). I wont be describing much of my process here; The writeup pdf can be read by clicking the image to the right of this paragraph. All the detail is there.
Here, I will just talk about my overall experience I had at the convention, post some pictures, and log my build photos. Overall the convention was comfortable to experience in the suit. I had several cooling measure with a helmet fan and cooling vest. However I was not totally free from being drenched in sweat at the end of the night with sweat pooling in the chin, leaking out every time I bent over. I also had to quickly sideline this look after the sole of a boot ripped apart. I believe the boot ripped due to poor curing. When too much UVO pigment is added to urethane, it weakens the bonds between the two part compound. I figured this was the case seeing as the right shoe was much more solid with no visible damage by the end of the night. No worries, I will get this repaired and add more pictures to this page. This may be my new baby but I would not recommend anyone go through this unless you have a large amount of money and resources. You will need to know a lot about casting, sewing, and 3D printing.
I don’t have much more to say that wasn’t described in the log, but thanks to all the love I got at the convention and I hope to fellowship with more of the Spider-verse people out there.
